About Us

Our Logo

Our official ESO logo, designed by Raed M Dawood, is of a turtle with an outline of a Wa'al (Arabian Tahr) on its shell, symbolizing both the marine and terrestrial environment. Oman is home to one of the world's largest remaining green turtle nesting populations and the Wa'al is a unique mammal found only in Oman's mountains. Four species of turtles are known to feed and nest in Oman, including the green, hawksbill, loggerhead and oliver ridley. Masirah Island may comprise one of the largest loggerhead nesting areas in the world, and the hawksbill turtles that nest all along Oman's coastline are one of the most endangered species of sea turtle.
